About

My name is Rick Roma. I live in New Jersey with my wife and two daughters.

By day I work in corporate development — acquisitions, integrations, the mechanics of how companies grow. By night I read too much, think in long digressions, and occasionally put those digressions down in writing.

This blog is called the counterfactual because I’ve always been drawn to the roads not taken. The decisions that bent your life one way when it might have bent another. The version of yourself you almost became. Not as regret — more as orientation. Understanding where you are by knowing where else you might have been.

The writing here is personal. Some of it is reflective, some of it is about books that changed how I see things, some of it is harder to categorize. There’s no publishing schedule. Things go up when they’re ready.

If something here resonates with you, I’d be glad to hear it.
