I wrote a script that’s partially finished and submitted it to the Final Draft Big Break contest.
I really didn’t want anyone to read. I’m still not sure if I do.
But this morning, I received Mark Manson’s newsletter “Your Next Breakthrough”. In it he notes a story how Stephen King wrote 3 pages of an idea and threw it into the wastebasket. By chance, his wife later pulled them from the trash, straightened them out, and read them.
“You have something here. Keep going”.
So, Stephen did. And ended up writing Carrie and the rest is history.
From the email:
“The idea and work were life-changing. But his brain convinced him they weren’t good enough.
That’s because that voice in your head is acting out of fear more often than it is out of honesty.
We talk about impostor syndrome like it’s a personality trait, but really, it’s just a lie you tell yourself. And worse, it’s a convenient one.
So instead of disqualifying your own work, ask yourself this:
“What brilliance have I already thrown away because I doubted myself?”
Give it one more pass.
You might be sitting on something remarkable.”
So, here’s the script.
