An analyst I follow from BTIG Research named Rich Greenfield retweeted that he was going on a podcast that I had never heard of.
In the first 8 episodes (I have listened to the first 2), you are taken deeply into the business battles between Netflix and Blockbuster, and later the battles between Netflix and the rest of traditional video content and distribution. The second Business War series has just started as well with episodes of Nike vs. Adidas.
In the first episode, the narrator tells the story of the meeting between Reed Hastings, the CEO and co-founder of Netflix, and John Antioco, CEO of Blockbuster at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007. Both wanted to gloat and potentially buy the online businesses of the other but in reality, both were months away from bankruptcy.
The episodes are well edited and highly curated to capture some of the most climactic scenes between the businesses that fight for supremacy in their respective market. I can’t wait to continue listening to the remaining episodes.
